The year was 1996. I was a junior in high school. Our world history teacher, Mr. Fred Bartek, was going over rules and expectations for the course as it was an AP History course. He was telling us that there would never be a valid excuse for not getting the homework done. He then uttered a quote that has been with me nigh on 30 years now: “Excuses are the leaning posts of fools.”
Now, this wasn’t to say that if something bad DID happen, like a car accident or having to go to the hospital would give us a zero mark on homework – but he labeled those as REASONS and not excuses. I learned from him in that quote that if the reason is not valid or a poor one, it is only an excuse. And “excuses are the leaning posts of fools.”
Nothing of value gets accomplished in life if you are constantly making excuses. Just get it done!
