Jeff & Duke

Daily writing prompt
What is good about having a pet?

Pets are good for the soul – they truly love us unconditionally because they don’t see our flaws. They just look to us as their faithful companions.

We got our cat, Jeff, almost 10 years ago when he was 4 months old. We had just moved into our first apartment together. We went to the pet store to just look and see if we could get her boys a pet for Christmas. There were 5 or 6 kittens up for adoption through a rescue. There was one kitty that kept following my finger and meowing at me through the glass. He definitely chose us as his family. Jen’s boys were 9 and 12 when we got him, and they named him, hence the name “Jeff” LOL. I wasn’t working at the time we got him and he ended up becoming my shadow. He still follows me everywhere I go in the apartment. He’s my sidekick. He’s the sweetest boy and “talks” to us. I love that he is part Maine coon so he’s really big and fluffy. He’s the best cat I’ve had, and I’ve had quite a few.

We got our dog, Duke, seven years ago after we purchased our first camper in Laconia, NH. We got him from a rescue that was trying to get puppies adopted in Lincoln Woods in RI. We were coming back from the beach and we figured why not? He’s a bit crazy but loves us all so much. He’s one of those hilariously “dumb” dogs and makes us laugh all the time.

Pets make great family members and enhance our lives. There are many studies proving that just having a pet can reduce stress. We love our pets!
