Perseverance

Daily writing prompt
What’s the trait you value most about yourself?

This is a tough prompt for me. I am not one to talk about myself in a positive way (something I am working on!). I had to think for a while to come up with something that fits me well. After a bit of consideration, I came up with perserverance.

I have not had the easiest of lives – but then again most of us have faced many challenges. I had a shitty childhood – so bad I don’t remember a lot of it from my brain repressing memories. In spite of this, I was able to do well in school, work hard to further my career. I was a controller for a car dealership by the time I was 23. I got my Associate’s degree while working full time and having my daughter. It took me 6 years but I was Summa Cum Laude, Phi Theta Kappa honor society and I had a 3.9 GPA.

Then I made some bad choices after my divorce that got me into a horribly shitty situation in my adulthood. The blame is all mine on this, and I regret it every single day. However, I again persevered and rose above thanks mainly to the help of my amazing sister and brother-in-law. I would not be where I am today without them.

Each day we all have a choice – do we wallow in the wrongs that have been done to us? Or do we choose to rise up, think positively, and just get out there and get it? I choose to RISE UP. I WILL persevere.

  2. Yes, life can be challenging, but it’s an inevitable and a necessary aspect of living. Because without adversity, we wouldn’t have the foundation of strength, wisdom and courage to achieve.

    1. I absolutely agree! I always say if life didn’t have any hard or bad times, we would never truly be able to appreciate the good.
