When I first heard a few months back that the U.S. Government was no longer going to make the penny I was like, okay, cool but are stores going to change their pricing structures to only have prices ending in 5’s or 0’s? So far, I haven’t seen any changes – everything still ends in 0.99 or 0.49. How exactly is this going to work??
After some brief research, it appears that companies are not changing prices as of yet. Instead, they are either short-changing themselves or the customer to round to the nearest nickel. This is completely absurd and I think companies need to update their pricing structures and should have done so with the announcement that the mint was no longer producing pennies. I am interested to see how this goes. What are your thoughts on the penny?
